Rafael Nadal wore these custom Nike shoes during the 2011 Wimbledon Championships, including in the Semifinal match. World #1 Nadal entered the 2011 Wimbledon Championships as defending champion, and was coming off a fresh victory at the 2011 French Open. Awaiting him in the semifinal was home favorite Andy Murray, who was seeking to end the 70+ year drought for a British male champion at the All England Club. Nadal ultimately defeated Murray in a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 battle to propel him into the Wimbledon Final.

The shoes have been photomatched by Resolution Photomatching to the July 1st, 2011 Semifinal match against Murray, as well as to 6/30/2011 and 7/2/2011.

The shoes are custom tailored by Nike for Nadal, and were never available for retail sale. They feature a grass court outsole for Wimbledon, as well as two flaming tennis balls on each shoe; each signify Nadal’s two previous Wimbledon titles in 2008 and 2010. Nadal’s bull logo and “Rafa” are displayed on the back heel, and “Vamos Rafa” emblems are present under the tongue.
