Presented in this lot are the shoes, shirt, and wristband that Rafael Nadal wore in his 2009 Davis Cup Finals match against Tomas Berdych. Spain faced the Czech Republic in the final of the tournament, defeating them 5-0 to win the Davis Cup. The final was played in Barcelona on clay, putting Nadal right at home on his favorite surface. Nadal defeated Berdych 7-5, 6-0, 6-2 in a brilliant match in front of a rowdy home crowd, wearing this vibrantly patriotic ensemble.
Nadal's custom Nike Courtballistec 1.3 sneakers feature Nadal's bull logo on the interior sides, a "Rafa" emblem on the left heel, and the Spanish flag on the right heel. They are in Nadal's custom sample size 10. The custom shirt also displays the Spanish flag on the left chest. It does not have a displayed size, instead showing "CUSTM" labeling. Nadal's wristbands are also in the patriotic Spanish yellow and red colors. These items were specifically made for Nadal by Nike and were not available for retail sale.
The lot is accompanied by documentation from Resolution Photomatching, who have photomatched the shoes to the finals match against Berdych, as well as a MEARS certificate.
